Focusing attention on our Old Stone Chimney

About seven years ago, I went on a leisurely bike ride throughout Downtown Niagara Falls… I’ve been on bike rides since, believe it or not, but I’m just talkin’ about that particular day!

Koshinski leaving NCCC’s Culinary Institute for WBBZ-TV

We’ve long admired the work of Bob Koshinski, a former Channel 7 and Empire Sports Network sports anchor and higher-up, not to mention a Niagara County Community College fixture and an occasional contributor to this site.

WBBZ-TV station owner Phil Arno announced today that Koshinski will be joining the station to serve as executive in charge of production and promotions.

I was shocked to read the statement yesterday by Niagara County Conservative Party Chairman Dan Weiss that amounted to a personal attack on Erie County Conservative Party Chairman Ralph Lorigo.

Weiss’ accusation that Ralph abandoned true conservative principles is a despicable lie. It appears that Weiss was the messenger for the treacherous Dean Skelos and Al D

Cuomo: Statewide gaming could mean billions

A plan by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to legalize full casino gambling in New York State could be a financial boon, although the Seneca Nation of Indians isn’t pleased with the idea.

The New York Gaming Association has released a report suggesting such a move would generate over $3.3 in economic output.

The group also suggests that legalizing non-Indian casino gambling could create some 17,000 construction-related jobs and over 8,000 permanent jobs.

NYGA believes recurring annual revenue for the state in such a move would be north of $975 million.

Scozzafava coming to Falls Wednesday to talk about state budget

Since presenting his executive budget proposal on Jan. 17, Gov. Andrew Cuomo has dispatched members of his cabinet and senior leadership team to deliver regional presentations of his plan for fiscal accountability and sweeping policy reform in communities across New York.

He did so when Secretary of State Cesar Perales came to the John Duke Senior Center back soon after the budget was released, and the second wave is coming to Niagara Falls when Buffalo native Dede Scozzafava, deputy secretary for local government at the Department of State, comes to the Conference Center Niagara Falls at noon on Wednesday for a similar presentation on how Cuomo

Announcement: Niagara Falls Public Library slogan contest

The Niagara Falls Public Library is holding a contest open to Niagara Falls resident library card holders of all ages . They are looking for a slogan, 10 words or less, that captures what the library has to offer people of all ages. The creator of the winning slogan will win a Kindle Fire.

Entry forms can be picked up at Earl Brydges and LaSalle Library.

The winner will be announced during National Library Week (April 9-13th). The theme of this year’s celebration is You Belong @ Your Library. “What better way to celebrate this idea than having our community tell us why they belong in our facilities?” states Library Director Michelle Petrazzoulo. “We want people to stop and think for a moment about what the library signifies in our community, raise awareness of how significant we are, and get people to start thinking about what we do now, as well as what we can become in the future. The Library is so many things to so many people, so we are looking for a slogan that captures that best and we feel our library patrons can best sum it up.”

The Contest is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Deadline for submission is Saturday, March 31, 2012.
