Niagara Tourism & Convention Corporation and Visit Buffalo Niagara to host shopping seminars today

Understand the growing Canadian shopping market in Buffalo Niagara

In the past three years, Buffalo Niagara welcomed 3.1 million Ontario shoppers annually who spent more than $900 million in local retailers, restaurants, attractions and lodging.

Niagara Tourism & Convention Corporation (NTCC) and Visit Buffalo Niagara jointly conducted a study with Longwoods International, a world leader in travel research. Join them for one of two special presentations on Monday, April 23. The morning session will be held at 9am, at WNED Studios, Horizons Plaza, 140 Lower Terrace, Buffalo or in the afternoon at 2pm, at the Niagara Falls Conference and Events Center, Amphitheatre Room, 101 Old Falls Street, Niagara Falls. Michael Erdman, Senior Vice President and Director of Research, at Longwoods International, will present at both sessions. He plans to discuss:

  • What are the demographics of these shoppers?
  • What type of experience are they looking for?
  • How can we as a region take full advantage of this opportunity?
  • Do they do more than shop?
  • What can you do to improve the experience which will lead to additional visitation?

“Having a deep understanding of the Southern Ontario shopper will help us engage this lucrative market to spend more time in Buffalo Niagara,” said John Percy, president and CEO, NTCC. “Studying shopper habits is about using insights to create the right environment, products, packaging, prices and communication to strengthen our brand and lengthen their stay.”

“This research shows that there is clearly an opportunity for us to grow Canadian visitation and spending and it will provide us, and the community, a great road map on how we get there,” said Dottie Gallagher-Cohen, president and CEO of Visit Buffalo Niagara.

Support for the study was also provided by The Buffalo News, Seneca Niagara Casino, Eastern Hills Mall and Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls, USA.
