Falls councilman’s salary hike draws outrage
As the city and its water plant edge closer to financial crisis, a Niagara Falls city councilman who has advocated for fiscal restraint will take a nearly 10 percent raise at his water plant maintenance job.
The raise for Councilman Glenn A. Choolokian was approved Thursday by the Niagara Falls Water Board, whose members are appointed by city and state leaders.
The pay jump drew heated opposition from two board members who characterized the move as the latest political stunt in a city with a long history of them.
