Niagara Falls City Council continues move toward community building

[Press Release]

The Niagara Falls City Council has announced a series of public forums meant to give city residents a louder voice in local government. The “Niagara Falls City Council: Neighbor to Neighbor” series is part of an ongoing effort by the council to increase communication, transparency and openness of information in the Cataract City. Attendees are invited to speak with members of the Council about any and all topics, in a less formal backdrop than the City Council Chambers, the traditional forum for voicing opinions to the council. The weekend events will be held every other month at different locations around the city, and are aimed at providing an accessible, comfortable setting for discussion and communication.

Council Chairman Charles Walker: “We want the people of Niagara Falls to know what’s going on in city government, and we want to know how they feel about it. If residents don’t feel that they are a part of the positive changes happening in Niagara Falls, then we aren’t doing our jobs. The Neighbor to Neighbor series is a way to give everyone a voice.

If you can’t be there, perhaps your neighbor can be. Together, neighbor to neighbor, we will restore, rebuild, and re-energize our city.”
The council also launched a Facebook page in early January, providing an additional avenue for communication between the council and their constituents. To date, over 300 people are following the page, and a number of constituents have used the page to reach out to the council for assistance.

The inaugural Neighbor to Neighbor event will be held at 11 AM, February 15, in the LaSalle branch of the Niagara Falls Public Library. The council can now also be reached via Facebook at www.facebook.com/nfcitycouncil.
