Oakwood Cemetery Notable Persons Marker Unveiling and Tour

The Oakwood Cemetery Association is partnering with the Niagara Falls National Heritage Area to honor people of note who are buried in the historic Oakwood Cemetery, 763 Portage Rd, Niagara Falls, NY.

This year the nominees are: Major General Parkhurst Whitney, Photographer George Barker, Humanitarian Elizabeth Howe, Hotelier James S. Patterson, Sergeant Edward Sarsnett, and Underground Railroad Facilitator L.H.F. Hamilton.

Nominees were chosen from six categories which cover many walks of life: civic, military, art, humanitarian, Niagara Falls and Niagara River; and human interest. People living in the Niagara Falls National Heritage Area were invited to vote for three of the six candidates.

Three of the nominees were selected through an Online voting opportunity and will be announced during Notable Persons Marker Unveiling & Tour at Oakwood Cemetery on June 7th at 10 AM.
A brochure for self-guided tours will be available at the Oakwood office. The brochures will contain biographical information of those listed and their location noted on an enclosed map.

The event is free and open to the public. Free parking is available.
