Leadership Niagara’s Homeless for a Night

Overnight event to raise awareness of poverty and homelessness

Leadership Niagara’s Class of 2014 will host “Homeless for a Night” on Friday, October 17 and 18. This overnight event aims to raise awareness of homelessness and poverty in Niagara County.

The event will take place at the Park Place Market located at 630 Main Street, Niagara Falls and is open to the public from 6-10 p.m. Participants will take part in discussion groups and activities structured to encourage thought and action to address poverty in our community. Speakers include Rev. James J. Maher, C.M., D.Min., President, Niagara University; Sam Magavern, Co-Director, Partnership for the Public Good; Dr. David Taylor, Associate Professor of Criminology & Criminal Justice at Niagara University; and Sr. Beth Brosmer, Director, Heart, Love, & Soul Food Pantry.

In addition, food and clothing bins will be available for donations, and a light dinner prepared by Community Missions’ cook Jimmie Walker will be provided.

The overnight portion of the event will include current and former members of Leadership Niagara spending the night outside in cardboard boxes, while also assembling over 100 hygiene bags to donate to Community Missions’ Emergency Housing Shelter.

All event donations will benefit Community Missions, Inc. and will assist in continuing to provide food and shelter to our neediest neighbors of Niagara County.
