Niagara Falls Collaborative Nets Housing Renovation Grant

$400,000 New York State Award Dedicated to Home Renovations

December 17, 2014 – The Niagara Falls Collaborative, made up of Center City Neighborhood Development Corporation (Center City), Highland Community Revitalization Committee, Inc. (HCRC) and Niagara Falls Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc. (NHS) was awarded a $400,000 New York State Housing and Community Renewal grant this month for its Home Improvement Program. This was the first joint funding application submitted by the organizations.

The $400,000 grant will be dedicated to home owner renovation projects throughout the city, strengthening property values and overall quality of life in the community. The grant will also leverage federal grant funds received from the Niagara Falls Community Development Department, allowing all three entities to complete more renovation projects.

“This collaborative is an example of how working together can improve competitiveness in an era of reduced funding at all levels of government,” said John Drake, Executive Director of Center City.

“This collaboration will allow for increased capacity, efficiency, and synergy among all three housing agencies,” said Charletta Tyson, Executive Director of HCRC.

Kathleen Steinman, Executive Director of NHS, said, “Working together on a collaborative effort allowed us to secure dollars into the City of Niagara Falls that we have been unable to do independently in the last few years.”

“Collaboration requires forward thinking, especially when money is involved. It is the exception and not the rule. Niagara Falls is fortunate to have three agencies working together towards the common goal of neighborhood revitalization,” said Seth Piccirillo, Director of Niagara Falls Community Development.
