Two men charged with cocaine dealing in the Falls

Two Niagara Falls men pleaded not guilty Thursday in State Supreme Court to separate indictments charging them with making two cocaine sales each to police informants in that city in 2013.

Kevin M. King Jr., 22, of Lockport Street, is accused of drug deals March 22 and 29, 2013. Antwann D. Vassel, 25, of 24th Street, is charged with deals on Sept. 11 and 26, 2013…

Niagara USA Chamber Announces Chamber Honors Awardees

The Niagara USA Chamber will hold its annual Chamber Honors 2015 Gala on February 27, 2015 at the Seneca Niagara Casino and Hotel Event Center. This annual dinner recognizes the businesses and business people that have made a positive impact on Niagara County.

This year’s awardees include Yahoo!, Business of the Year; Faisal Merani, Business Person of the Year; Lockport Ice Rink & Sports Center, Inc., Groundbreaking Award; Molly Anderson, Father Joseph L. Levesque Award for Community Development; TREK, Industry Insider Award; and Seneca Niagara Gaming Corporation, National Grid Green Manufacturing Award. The Aquarium of Niagara will also receive a special recognition celebrating their fiftieth anniversary.

Art of Beer 2015 at the NACC

Brews, food, music, and art for a good cause! The annual fund-raiser for the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center (NACC) will be held on Friday, February 27, 2015 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Craft beer lovers and supporters of neighborhood revitalization, who appreciate great food and music will pack the NACC for the 9th Annual Art of Beer. Over twenty beer and food vendors will line the halls of the landmark building as the former Niagara Falls High School is transformed for a night into a beer lover’s paradise. The NACC Art of Beer will feature a dozen different culinary selections and over 50 varieties of beer, including some of WNY’s newest microbrews.

Tickets for this event are only $30 in advance or $35 at the door. You must be 21 or over to attend. The admission ticket includes: collectable tasting glass, beer tastings, food tastings, entertainment, and brew making demonstrations throughout the entire evening. Overnight packages are also available from the Red Coach Inn.

The Entertainment this year will rock! Great blues and classic rock music will be flowing through the air compliments of Electric Rodeo, while stunning fashion and wearable art creations come strutting down the stairs.

The Wearable Art AOB collection will feature ‘brew night” inspired clothing and accessories. This new addition to the annual Art of Beer, sponsored by Hip Gypsy and Mary Grace Design Studio, is the perfect complement to the returning collection of Brewing art and memorabilia on display courtesy of the Simon Pure Collection.

The beer making demonstration by Niagara Tradition Home Brew will also be back by popular demand. Meet local brew masters and learn how to make your own beer at home! One lucky patron will even take home their own brew kit.

This year the Red Coach has partnered with the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center to offer an exclusive Art of Beer Experience. The Niagara Arts and Cultural Center is a not-for-profit multi-arts center located in the former Niagara Falls High School. The NACC, founded in 2001 was once slated for demolition but is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is home to over 70 artists and cultural organizations, a ballet school, three theaters, a sound stage, and recording studios. Through the hard work of hundreds volunteers it has undergone a major renaissance and is now serving as a catalyst for the revitalization of the surrounding neighborhoods.

Business Association Calls for Further Conversation on YMCA sale

Main Street Niagara to Host Forum on Potential Niagara Gospel Rescue Mission-YMCA Transaction

 

Main Street Niagara, the Business and Professional Association representing the business community of Main Street corridor in the City of Niagara Falls, will be hosting a forum on February 10, 2015 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm in the auditorium at the Niagara Falls Public Library – Main Branch (1425 Main Street).

The purpose of the forum will be to learn more about the potential transfer of the Portage Road YMCA building to the Niagara Gospel Rescue Mission, currently located at 1023 Ferry Avenue.

Representatives from both parties involved in the potential transaction have been invited to attend, as have multiple city officials and representatives from the local business communities.

“Our goal is planning this forum is to educate ourselves, as members of the Main Street business community, and the general public through a constructive and productive conversation,” said Tom Lowe, Association President.
