Letters to Santa Help Students Give to Make-A-Wish Foundation

Orleans/Niagara BOCES’ teacher Matthew McCall organized a great community service project for the BOCES students at the Newfane Learning Center, North Tonawanda High School, Orleans Learning Center and Niagara Wheatfield High School.

All through the month of December, the students worked in partnership with the North Tonawanda City School District to write letters and cards to Santa as part of Macy’s yearly I Believe campaign.  For every card or letter for St. Nick, the store donates $1 to the Make A Wish Foundation to help a child, who has a life-threatening medical condition,  get a wish come true.

The BOCES students crafted 492 cards and the North Tonawanda schools collected 895 from its four elementary schools, for a grand total of 1,387 cards.  Mr. McCall says they were very excited that they were able to drop the cards off on National Believe Day which doubled their donation.  “We collectively turned our cards into $2,774 to donate to this wonderful organization!”

Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino rings in New Year 2016

Live entertainment, special deals highlight party of the year

Have plans for New Year’s Eve? Change them. Don’t have plans yet? You do now. Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino is getting ready to throw the party of the year.

As we get ready to close the book on 2015, the region’s premier entertainment and resort destination is putting together a night you’ll remember all year long, with plenty of options to get the evening started right and keep you going long after the ball drops.

“At a place where energy and entertainment is our business, New Year’s Eve takes the excitement to another level,” said Patrick Bassney, general manager, Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino.

The party within the party happens at Stir, the region’s hottest high-energy feature bar, located in the heart of the gaming floor. From non-stop heart-pumping live entertainment – both on stage and high above your head – to special packages, Stir is the perfect place to make your New Year’s Eve memory.

A performance by The Diva Show Band, a larger than life group whose performance will have the dance floor filled, gets things started at 5pm. Buffalo’s own DJ G-Money will be spinning during set breaks to keep the party rocking. Once you’ve had a chance to catch your breath, Flash Dance, a sensational party band, will have you back on your feet all the way into 2016, as they perform from 10pm-2am.

Not all of the entertainment will be on-stage. In fact, Seneca Niagara will have an aerialist performing mid-air acrobatics above the heads of the guests at Stir! Of course, the 43-foot high-definition video wall at Stir will be perfect for watching the ball drop.

Special group packages for the evening include complimentary cover charge, bottle service, champagne toast, chocolate covered strawberries and more. All booths for the evening have been reserved, but packages are still available for those who want to make New Year’s Eve extra special. For package pricing and other information, visit www.SenecaCasinos.com or call (716) 501-2390.

“We feel a sense of ownership for being the region’s celebration headquarters for New Year’s Eve,” said Audrey Oswell, chief operating officer, Seneca Resorts & Casinos. “There will be something to see and experience from one end of the resort to the other. Our guests are going to remember celebrating the start of 2016 at Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino.”

Away from action at Stir, you can appease your appetite with a selection of special holiday menus at Seneca Niagara’s signature restaurants, including The Western Door Steakhouse, la Cascata, Koi, and Thunder Falls Buffet.

If you want to catch a show before or after dinner, America’s favorite mashup group, The Company Men, will perform two shows in The Bear’s Den Showroom, at 7pm and 10pm. Known as a modern day Rat Pack, the group interweaves hit songs from the last six decades, moving seamlessly – and entertainingly – from the music of Sinatra to today’s hits, hitting every era and note in between.
