Letters to Santa Help Students Give to Make-A-Wish Foundation

Orleans/Niagara BOCES’ teacher Matthew McCall organized a great community service project for the BOCES students at the Newfane Learning Center, North Tonawanda High School, Orleans Learning Center and Niagara Wheatfield High School.

All through the month of December, the students worked in partnership with the North Tonawanda City School District to write letters and cards to Santa as part of Macy’s yearly I Believe campaign.  For every card or letter for St. Nick, the store donates $1 to the Make A Wish Foundation to help a child, who has a life-threatening medical condition,  get a wish come true.

The BOCES students crafted 492 cards and the North Tonawanda schools collected 895 from its four elementary schools, for a grand total of 1,387 cards.  Mr. McCall says they were very excited that they were able to drop the cards off on National Believe Day which doubled their donation.  “We collectively turned our cards into $2,774 to donate to this wonderful organization!”
