Armed Robbery reported in Ferry Avenue alleyway

Niagara Falls Police are investigating a report of an armed robbery early Tuesday in the alley at the rear of the 600 block of Ferry Avenue.

A pair of victims, one male and one female, told police that they were talking near a friend’s house in the area at around 3:25 a.m. when a man who was walking west on Ferry Avenue approached them and pointed a black revolver to the right side of the male victim’s head…

Men indicted in Falls home invasion

A Niagara Falls man was arraigned Friday in Niagara County Court on charges that he and another man invaded the home of a Falls pawnshop owner Oct. 28 and robbed and injured him.

Robert J. Thornton, 24, of Cleveland Avenue, was jailed in lieu of $5,000 bail set by County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas after he pleaded not guilty to two counts each of first-degree robbery and first-degree burglary and three counts of second-degree assault…

Cara Dickey heading back to jail for up to 18 months

Cara L. Dickey, the former school teacher who spent almost three years in prison for raping a teenage student, will spend more time behind bars for failing to register as a sex offender.

Dickey, 35, was sentenced this morning by State Supreme Court Justice John L. Michalski to up to 12 months in the Erie County Correctional Facility in Alden. But she also will serve, concurrently, an 18-month sentence for violating the terms of her parole.

Dickey two months ago pleaded guilty, as charged, to a felony count of failure to register or verify as a sex offender.

In early January, Dickey, who had been living in a halfway house in South Buffalo, disappeared after ditching the ankle bracelet that was a condition of her release on parole. As a convicted sex offender, she was required to register a change of address within 10 days but failed to do so.

She was arrested this past February near Chicago, Ill., after having spent more than a month on the run with another ex-con with whom she had a romantic relationship while serving in the women

$1,400 and wedding ring taken in burglary

Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a Trails End Lane home about 8 p.m. Saturday for a report of a burglary.

A resident said he went out to dinner with his family and when they returned, noticed a garage door open. A search of the house found a $1,500 wedding ring and $1,400 missing.

A suspect was offered to police.

A Buffalo couple told Niagara Falls police that property was stolen from their rental car overnight Thursday while it was in the valet parking lot at the Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel. A cellphone and a pair of prescription eyeglasses were taken from the car sometime between 11 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. Friday, police said, resulting in a loss of $285. Valet parking employees told police the car may have been left unlocked.

A burglar stole $480 in cash after breaking into a 19th Street apartment overnight Friday in Niagara Falls, police said.

A resident told police that someone entered the apartment through a side window between 5 p.m. Friday and 12:40 a.m. Saturday.

In addition to the money, which was taken from a bedroom, two cellphones were taken from a living room area. Total loss was estimated at about $700.

Feb. 23

An Ohio couple lost $100 to a thief while they were at a bar on First Street in Niagara Falls early Saturday, police said. The wife told police that two $50 bills were in her purse when she went to the bar shortly after midnight.

She said she left it on the bar momentarily when she went to check on a lottery ticket. Upon returning to her hotel room at about 1:30 a.m., she said, the money was missing from her purse.

Police in Niagara Falls arrested a Canadian woman Friday afternoon, accusing her of shoplifting $62 worth of liquor in her wheelchair. Lori-Ann Bowman, 47, of St. Catharines, Ont., was charged with petit larceny at Supermarket Liquors on Niagara Falls Boulevard. According to reports, Bowman, who is an amputee, tried to conceal several bottles of whiskey, rum and vodka inside a bag underneath her wheelchair. She was stopped after leaving the store at about 5:15 p.m.

An suspected crack cocaine dealer in the Niagara Falls was arrested on charges of third-degree and fourth-degree criminal possession of controlled substance after a traffic stop, city police said.

Antoine D. Hudson, 32, of Hyde Park Boulevard, was pulled over Jan. 10 in the 400 block of Fifth Street and charged with not wearing a seat belt and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Additional charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance had been pending after Hudson was found with a clear baggie containing three grams of suspected crack cocaine, according to narcotics investigators.
