All of the participating artists are part of ReverbNation, the world’s leading music community for rising musicians. ReverbNation built the technology that powers the programs, downloads and voting, which ultimately narrow the field for final judging.

Once local fan favorites are chosen, Hard Rock Cafe Niagara Falls, USA and 80+ other participating locations around the world will host a series of live battle competitions from Monday, February 24, 2014, through Tuesday, April 22, 2014. During that time, a panel of local industry judges will select one winner from each location who will move into the Global Competition and a second round of online fan voting to determine the Top 25 bands worldwide.

Once the top 25 finalists are determined, a panel of music industry professionals, including Steven Van Zandt, producer, songwriter, creator of the world’s most successful radio rock show “Little Steven’s Underground Garage,” founding member of the E Street Band and soon to be Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee; singer and hit songwriter Bonnie McKee, known for her hit single “American Girl” as well as hit songs for Katy Perry, Ke$ha, and Britney Spears; Laura Taylor of Everybody’s Management, who currently works with Laura Marling and Mumford & Sons; Scott Hutchison of acclaimed indie-band, Frightened Rabbit; Stone, guitarist of Taiwanese band Mayday and Hard Rock Records’ Artist Relations Executives James Buell and Blake Smith, will help select the grand prize winner and two runner-up bands.

The Grand Prize winner will perform at Hard Rock Live Rome, an outdoor music festival that will embrace more than 50,000 fans from across Italy. Winners of Hard Rock Rising will be flown to Italy to receive the ultimate rock star experience – the chance to visit the historic city of Rome and open up the main stage festivities at the first-ever Hard Rock Live Rome festival. The selected runner-up bands will each receive new music equipment and gear valued at $10,000.

Niagara Wine Trail grows in popularity

[From NiagaraFallsUpClose.com]

The Niagara Wine Trail is quickly becoming a seasonal attraction in the Niagara Falls region and a tourist attraction in its’ own right. Situated to the northeast of Niagara Falls itself and just forty minutes from the metropolitan Buffalo area, the Niagara Wine Trail is becoming highly regarded among wine connoisseurs.

Although the Niagara Wine Trail is being discovered for the first time by many the art and science of grape growing and winemaking has been in this area for many years. There is one winery on the trail that has produced grapes in its vineyard for over 100 years and has been open since the 19th century…

Oktoberfest at the Falls [by 2chicks2go]

So, it’s “Oktober” and you know what that means…yes…Oktoberfest!

There are many Oktoberfest celebrations world wide this time of year, but none other have the roar of the mighty Niagara as a back drop.

This autumn has been an unusually warm one, with temperatures regularly above average. The leaves have begun their subtle turn from green to gold and auburn and orange, and this past weekend was spectacular. The sky was bright blue, with barely a cloud to be found.

And down by the Falls, on Old Falls Street, there was a lot going on. Our version of Oktoberfest included the quintessential lederhosen and dirndl ensembles, biergartens, and “Oom-Pah-Pah” bands.

There were were several types of German themed foods, including bratwurst, schnitzel, pretzels, and a variety of beer available in the large tent. Long tables filled to capacity with families and friends ate, drank, and listened the alphorns, while watching colorful dancers.

Niagara Now: Global Appeal – Selling a Natural Wonder of the World [by Michelle Blackley]

When Elizabeth Davis, director of sales, at Niagara Tourism and Convention Corporation (NTCC) sets foot on foreign land she is thinking about one thing

Hydraulic Park – Niagara Street & Third Street – Then & Now

From the Hydraulic Park Facebook page:

Hydraulic Park is within a 2 minute walking distance to two major hotels. It sees many travelers and tourists walk by everyday. Due to the poor condition of this park, these people dont know they are walking through part of the old canal system.

Here are a couple photographs to help you mentally paint the picture:

Area where Niagara Street and Third Streets are today… back in 1920

Decades later, after canal had been filled in, a park is built on the land…

Before it was a flowerbed, it was a fountain for the community to enjoy…

Today, community members get their hands dirty in order to help bring back life to this corner…
