Will removal of the parkway be the catalyst for reviving Main Street?

Yes and No. Case studies indicate development usually occurs on avenues closest to the removal areas. This would likely be Whirlpool and that in itself will bring commerce to Main Street… There is no indication forcing traffic down Main Street alone will be a catalyst. Main Street thrived before the parkway and city maps indicate there has been a road along the gorge from downtown to Devils Hole since the early 1900s.

If someone has a conclusive answer I would like to hear it. Since the closest distance between two points is a straight line, It will likely send current parkway traffic down Lewiston Road. What would be the volume? AADT traffic figures indicate it could be as high as 8,380 past Maple Avenue School. (4661 parkway + 3619 current level). *Keep in mind, these are Annual Average Daily Traffic figures and do not reflect peek traffic. No one knows for sure what the traffic effect will be.

Will removal of the parkway seriously effect traffic on 104 at the top Lewiston Hill?

I do not see how there could be any doubt. The AADT figures for parkway at Lewiston Hill indicate the traffic would increase by 6,634. Adding this to the 19,121 current figure would increase it to 25,755.
