Local chocolatier hosting Appreciation Day on Sunday

A Chocolate, Art and Music Festival will be wrapped inside a Community Appreciation Day celebration, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Niagara’s Honeymoon Sweets, 5540 Porter Road.

Former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Lou Piccone will open the event, singing the national anthem in the parking lot of the chocolate company, joined by the honor guard from the 914th Airlift Wing and the Niagara Falls High School marching band. Later in the afternoon, at 2 p.m., a ceremony will honor those who provide services to the community, including teachers, first responders and community organizations…

Loss of casino money could mean Falls tax increase

Niagara Rises Press Release for Tails, Troops & Tunes – October 7th

On October 7th, 2017, Niagara Rises is holding an all day fundraiser for Dog Tags New York, called Tails, Troops & Tunes. Held at Veterans Memorial Community Park – 7000 Lockport Rd. in Niagara Falls, NY from 12pm-8pm. The event will feature a flag ceremony, speakers, retail and craft vendors, food trucks, a dog pageant, dog kissing booth, a dog obedience demonstration and ending the evening with a concert from 5-8pm featuring Seventh Sign.

The flag ceremony starts at 1:00pm honoring our veterans featuring: The 914th Air Refueling Wing Color Guard, National Anthem performed by Grammy Nominated Christina Custode, (Ret.) 107th Air Force Col. John Higgens, President of Niagara Rises Daniel Rey, Member of Dog Tags of New York Michael Shanley, Town of Niagara Supervisor Lee Wallace and the Sanborn Fire Hall youth color guard.

The Dog Pageant has online pre-registration at www.NiagaraRises.us open to the public for $10 per category. Registration the day of will be $15 per category and runs from 11am to 1pm. The 12 categories for the pageant are listed on the website at www.NiagaraRises.us. Our judges include 2 representatives of SPCA Niagara Jennifer Pitaressi and Amy Lewis, other judges include; Technical Sergeant Amy Owczarczak of the United States Air Force and local dignitaries. The MC for the pageant is local artist Sal Anello.

Vendors include: direct sales, veteran information resources, local crafters, artisans and food trucks. Demonstrations by Iron Island Working Dog Club and be on the lookout for Zombies as they roam the grounds (Terror Technologies).

A Dog Kissing Booth will be a great way to get in some doggy smooches and the opportunity for you and your dog to have a unique picture taken together in our Dog Photo Booth. The day closes out with a live performance by Seventh Sign playing all your favorite classics.

Niagara Rises is a registered 501 (c3) organization that provides support and resource opportunities to organizations working toward strengthening Niagara County. Dog Tags New York empowers members of the veteran community through interaction with rescue animals. They build purpose, trust, and camaraderie, while aiding in transition and adjustment. They take their mission to Veterans and animal organizations throughout the state and in doing so are in need of better transportation for their organization. Niagara Rises would like to help them in this endeavor and have come together to give you this exciting and worthy event.

Audit: Falls will run out of cash reserves by year’s end due to casino dispute

The City of Niagara Falls is expected to deplete its fund balance by the end of the year because of a dispute over Seneca casino revenue, according to an audit issued Tuesday by the state Comptroller’s Office.

The city, caught in the middle of a dispute between New York State and the Seneca Nation of Indians over casino revenue sharing, has been using about $9 million in casino revenue each year to plug budget gaps since 2014. The city’s also spent an additional $2.9 million from its fund balance per year over the same period to balance its budget, the audit found…

Niagara Falls revises vicious dog complaint system

Animal complaints in Niagara Falls, especially those pertaining to potentially vicious dogs, now will be handled through the City Clerk’s Office.

Millions of gallons of raw sewage at falls? Blame the rain
