Hochul: Press to save air base has begun

Congresswoman Kathy Hochul continued her push to try and save the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station from closure.

Hochul has announced a U.S. Customs and Border Protection plan to build a new facility at the base that would station up to 100 border security agents.

She met with leaders at the base on Tuesday.

“We are mounting a united, full-court press to protect this base,” she said. “It begins today.”

Officials are trying to make the base more diverse in the wake of news the Pentagon is calling on a reduction of the C-130 aircraft the station maintains, a move some worry could lead to the station’s shuttering.
