Group tried to steal fermentation tanks from area winery

County sheriff’s deputies are looking for a trio of men they say tried to steal a pair of fermentation tanks from a local winery.

The report came in over the weekend at Schulze Winery in Newfane after a pair of men tipped over one of the tanks, backing up a pick-up truck.

They couldn’t move one of the tanks because it was too big, then the group fled once the men realized the entire escapade was being captured on security cameras.

The truck, according to a report, appeared to be a newer Ford F-250 or F-350 super duty extended cab, either black or light blue with tubular chrome running boards, clearance lights on top of the cab, a rack in the bed with lights on top, and DOT numbers on bottom of the doors.

There was no damage to the tanks, but they are valued at a combined $27,000.
