SPCA setting rules to pick new board of directors

The SPCA of Niagara is setting the rules by which an entirely new board of directors will be in place this May.

The troubled animal rescue organization announced yesterday that it will appoint a nominating committee that will review all applicants for the board.

That committee will consist of five community members and two current board members.

Once a new board of directors is in place, the SPCA will start the search for a permanent executive director.

Amy Lewis took over that position on an interim basis this week. Lewis has been working with the Erie County SPCA for seven years.

She starts the healing process with the organization, which has been attempting to reorganize following allegations of mismanagement and animal mistreatment.

Former director John Faso lost his job following a scathing report of the shelter.
