Falls air base to have more than 800 jobs cut

After hearing the news that the county’s top taxpayer has shut down at least temporarily, the county’s top employer will learn later today that it’s also due for bad news.

According to the Buffalo News, more than 800 jobs will be cut from the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station under a plan to be released later today.

Although the Air Force Reserve’s 914th Air Support Group, the base’s largest of two units, will remain intact, the Air National Guard’s 107th Airlift Wing would take the hit, including nearly 600 part-time jobs.

The move would shrink the number of C-130 cargo planes at the base from 11 to eight.

This is all part of a plan to save about $500 billion on military spending over the next decade.
