Audio: Niagara AD McLaughlin talks about demise of women’s hockey

The plan to dismantle the women’s hockey program at Niagara University came about only in the last year, according to Athletics Director Ed McLaughlin, who gave us this interview on Monday evening.

While the cost of the Division I hockey team did weigh in the decision, McLaughlin admitted, it wasn’t the only factor.

  1. Bill says:

Agree with Jim. This is the pedestrian decision. They have chosen the simple, average path and did not bother to have the class to tell the women who bled for the school first.

The school was special and could boast having a dual program when MU,ND and OU did not. It made the school special.

Not now. Shamefully executed and short sighted.

  2. Jim Hufnagel says:

It’s all about the “product”. It’s the right decision for the “university”. No big surprise, women have gotten second-class treatment from these people for two thousand years.
