Spirit Airlines adding flights, changing schedules

Spirit Airlines announces big changes to its schedule and will add new flights out of Niagara Falls International Airport.

A Spirit spokesperson says the airline will add one flight each week to Myrtle Beach, S.C.

In addition, all of the airline’s flights regularly scheduled to depart Saturdays will now depart Sundays.

Airport officials say the number of passengers departing Niagara Falls International rose by nearly 200-percent between 2010 and 2011 partly due to the popularity of Spirit and Allegiant airlines.

Unfortunately, the other carrier that helped to drive that surge, Direct Air, is now in Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
