Coroner, fire chief get fines, community service

Here’s a follow on yesterday’s about the Niagara County coroner stepping down after he and a fire chief are faced charges for mishandling human remains of a Lockport man who had died.

After appearing in Cambria Town Court on Tuesday, the two will each pay fines totaling $1,000 and will need to perform 100 hours of community service.

District 4 Coroner and Wilson resident Russell Jackman was accused of giving the remains to Vincent Salerno, a Lockport resident and the chief of the Cambria Volunteer Fire Company.

The two exchanged the remains of Lockport’s Richard Dunn, who was killed on April 13 in an accident on Saunders Settlement Road.
