Regional polar bear is first to get artificial insemination

Officials at the Seneca Park Zoo in Rochester are looking to make history.

Officials have announced that Aurora, a 22-year-old female polar bear at the zoo, is likely pregnant after taking part in the world’s first artificial insemination of a polar bear.

The procedure took place in early March under a collaboration between Seneca officials and members of the Cincinnati Zoo.

While there isn’t a polar bear pregnancy test (at least not when we looked at CVS), zoo officials say Aurora hasn’t ovulated in two months, meaning she could give birth around Thanksgiving.
