Nick Casal brutally attacked; fight cancelled

Junior Welterweight Nick Casal (22-4-1, 17 KOs) was brutally attacked Friday night in Buffalo, New York. Casal was out with his girlfriend when from he was brutally attacked from behind by a gang wielding golf clubs. The attackers were identified as her ex-boyfriend and his friends. Medical reports are that Casal has a possible broken arm, multiple lacerations, including one at least 12 inches long. Casal was in preparation for the biggest fight of his career on June 29th in his hometown of Niagara Falls against Ruslan Provodnikov (21-1, 14 KOs) for the WBO Inter-Continental title. The fight was to be the main event of a nationally televised card on ESPN2?s Friday Night Fights. Obviously Casal will now not be able to fight on this date.

From Ray Casal’s Facebook account post following the incident:

“Nick looked great today he realy is a tough kid. The doctors said he will make a full recovery and there is no damage to his skull or brain. Hard heads run in my family honestly..lol Just some rest time and back to life, Thank you God and all my friends for all the prayers it really works and no one can tell me or Nick different.”

    What a horible, sad thing to happen. I am sickened by the thougth that anyone is capable of such a violent act against another human being. My thoughts and prayers are with Nick & his family. Praying for justice, and a speedy recovery!!
