Man O Trees sues city..will this delay July completion?
If city pulled bond 2 years ago road most likely would have been complete..court time and all..
I would like to hope the road will be done in July…
As residents should we ask for top layer of blactop be placed before winter to make ride safe and smooth..even if torn up in spring..we desrve a better road..
    Just 1 opinion…..

An after thought…where the work has been completed around Findlay and Clifton…at the cross-walks, where it should slant for handi-cap accessibility, there are curbs and they look too high for anyone in a wheelchair to navigate. They don’t seem to be uniform either.

As a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls and a DeVeaux resident since 1981, It is difficult to express in words how embarrassed I am to have put up the the ineptitude by most everyone involved in the Lewiston Road project. The residents of DeVeaux should have stormed city hall years ago over this situation. We deserved much better.
    Some basic points:
    1. after years of delays the city went into this contract without a licensed engineer to represent us.
    2. the city accepted a bid from a contractor that was WAY too low. Common sense suggested that the project should be re-bid to avoid the contractor making up the difference with change orders.
    3. when it became apparent to everyone that the construction site was one of the most dangerous and mismanaged jobs in memory, the city should have acted swiftly to remove the contractor. It was clear that this was headed for litigation no matter what. Time, money and inconvenience could have been saved by acting swiftly.

As residents of Niagara Falls we have put up with more than our fair share of failed projects. However, Lewiston Road takes the cake. This is a ROAD construction project for God’s sake !! You would think we’re building the Power Project by the time its taking. We are now told it will be done June of 2013. Word of advice, don’t do another “ground breaking ceremony” when the new contractor is hired. June of 2013? Anyone want to bet?

Try living on Maple and every day driving through a pile of stone to turn on a road that is dangerous and abusive to cars..the whole project is a joke..we are too nice..we need to become vocal

  8. Ms. Niagara says:

Been living through this fiasco since the beginning and it’s especially annoying having the road closed at the railroad bridge. When they did the area between Macklem and Clifton they dumped all that was excavated in the alley way between Macklem and Lewiston Road. They smoothed it out of course but what is in that stuff?? I do not trust that there is no radiation. Another annoying thing they did at that area is –they constantly blocked off the access to Clifton and Macklem–without any warning–hope they don’t do that as the work continues. There is constant dust also. The section of Lewiston Road where they did finish and pave the sidewalks, they never replanted the grass and its nothing but mud & weeds, and torn up front yards for some people.

  9. Flat tire says:

Since project has begun, I have had 2 ruined tires. My neighbor has aLso experienced damage due to road. We also have concerns in regards to emergency vehicle access, as we have several elderly neighbors. This will only get worse with winter weather. Hope project movesfwd soon, we have lost a. Full year of good construction weather. Time will tell.

Interesting. The last article said bids were going out in July. Late again. I agree we. Should place taxes in escrow until road done. Let’s see how the project moves along.

    to me, samuel.fruscio.
    Craig–

The project is currently out to bid (i.e., we are in the process of hiring a new firm to complete the job). There was a pre-bid meeting earlier this week where 6 prime contractors attended. Bills are due next week, and as soon as they can be evaluated, the Council will asked to award the contract. There are specific deadlines for completing various parts of the project specified in the bid documents, including a final completion date of July 2013 for the entire project. In the meantime, City crews were out the last two days cleaning up crushed stone, rolling areas where utility work has been done to make the ground smoother, etc. This is short-term work being done while we wait for the new contractor to start addressing those areas for the longer term. Our construction management company (Wendel) created a Facebook page to help keep residents updated that could be restarted once work starts again in a few weeks.

    Hope that’s helpful.

    PD

I submitted the following to Mayor Dyster and Council Chair Fruscione:

Mayor Dyster and Council Chariman Fruscione: The Niagara Hub has recieved many inquiries related to the progress of the construction project on Lewiston Road. I know you are both working to remedy the situation but I feel the residents’ patience is wearing thin. The Deveaux section of Niagara Falls includes many professionals and involved citizens who are in support of your efforts to maintain services while overcoming the obstacles placed in front of you. The respect they hold for you causes them to be hesitant in criticizing the city’s progress on this project. Niagara Hub has opened an online forum for the affected neighbors to voice their concerns, questions, and comments. We are able to deny or return inappropriate submittals and we trust the participants will provide constructive ideas to address their concerns.

I realize a new chapter has started with this job and I am asking for an outline of dates, activities, and assurances that can be monitored, qualified and quantified to keep the momentum going and isloate and correct situations that would be contrary to the overall plan. I other words, who’s going to do what, when, and how? I offer the Niagara Hub building to host any meetings that may be generated through this initiative unles the attendance would require the use of a larger meeting room that may be available at City Hall.

Your comments and submittals are welcome at http://www.niagarahub.com by opening the section titled, “Lewiston Road Forum, – Road Work Ahead”

Thank you, Craig Avery – Niagarahub.com

the residents of deveaux should ban together and refuse to pay property taxes, maybe city hall will wake up

  14. I have lived the Lewiston Road experience since the beginning of construction. Two things that must be fixed going forward : intersection at College Ave (about two feet lower than where it used to be; NW corner has about three poles in close proximity to one another making passage on bike or stroller dangerous. Intersection at Findlay – remove that granite curb in the middle of the road! Narrow the intersection and avoid damage claims to automobiles sliding and slamming into the curb while turning right down toward the expressway.

    • Ms. Niagara says:

I have never had a problem there, but my husband said he slid right into it last winter.

  15. DeVeaux Born and Raised says:

It is the most annoying ordeal we’ve had to deal with. Can someone step on the gas with this project? Can someone let us know what the heck is going on? Not only do I stare at broken road and “construction” at a standstill, but I also have to deal with the dust, the noise, the uncertainty. PLEASE SOMEONE FROM CITY HALL ENLIGHTEN US!
