[From Niagara-Gazette.com]

here will soon be one less banking option in downtown Niagara Falls.

The Bank of America has informed customers that it plans to close its branch located at 418 Third St. early next year.

J.T. Crawford, a spokesperson with Bank of America’s corporate office, confirmed customers were informed of the decision in letters delivered in late July. He said the Third Street branch will officially shut its doors on Jan. 24, 2014.

Now Showing: StenzTV (Episode 1)

Getch’yer popcorn ready!

The new, revised, all spiffed up and ready for the air-waves – StenzTV!  The half-hour, variety style, some time serious, most of the time not-so-serious side of Niagara Falls and basically, the point of view from one of your average fellow residents, the glass is half full, keep me out of politics, we only live once, let’s all chill the F out, your brother from anotha’ mutha – Yours Truly… ME!

Consider StenzTV the NiagaraHub’s first full “network” show, a combination of elements you read and view on the Hub (The Images of the Day, The Soapbox, Headline Roundup, Food Reviews, Man on the Street, etc.), along with the hometown goodness and trivial nonsensical whatnot that always has been the heart of the website called StenzTV. I’ll be mixing in some local news and headlines, some guests and fun conversation, along with bits of local history and general autobiographical stuff that makes me, me.  My intention is to bring to local Niagara Falls visual media and cable access something that most people haven’t seen before in this area – something different than Mr. or Mrs. Blahblahblah sitting between two ferns on an old couch waxin’ philosophical about the 1965 School Board Budget… yaaawwwwwn! Don’t get me wrong, we will be as low tech, low budget and as crude as the worst of ‘em, but our difference is, we will have soul!  A little sumpthin’ for everybody… or maybe not at all, but hey, I’m givin’ it whirl and having a good time doing so.

This half hour episode is just the beginning – I hope to roll one out every couple months.  Ya know, like the beginnings of all great television shows… from M*A*S*H*, All in the Family, Happy Days to the Price is Right and Family Feud, it’ll be a series kick off to celebrate! Just remember, fish don’t fry in the kitchen, and beans don’t burn on the grill, took a whole of tryin’ just to get up that hill…

StenzTV will be filmed on location and also in front of a live studio audience (of one or two people at most probably!) and will be airing once every couple months or so.  If you want to appear on StenzTV or if you have a great video or segment that you think is a must to add to the next episode, lemme know!  Please give us a call at 716.299.0705 or email us at: theniagarahub@gmail.com

Image of the Day – August 25, 2013

Gonna be a rough year? With EJ Manuel and Kevin Kolb injured, the Buffalo Bills will work out unsigned free agent Matt Leinart on Sunday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.  I’m sure many fans would rather see Leinart behind EJ Manuel than Kevin Kolb… at least it is the second stringer, not the number one QB we are talkin’ about.

The infamous “selfie” – Hot dogs or legs?

[From HappyPlace.com]

It’s the most ubiquitous and annoying summer selfie. The waist-angle pic of a pair of thighs from just south of the crotch down to the knee, with a beautiful view that says, “Look where I am, Facebook aholes!” Hot Dog Legs have become so prevalent on Facebook and Instagram that they threaten to put people off the pork-like food product completely. Now with the tumblr Hot-Dog Legs, it’s been turned into a fun game. Guess which legs are real, non-edible human stems, and which are real, slightly-more-edible hot dogs.  Try your luck here: http://hot-dog-legs.tumblr.com/

Ben Affleck revealed as new Batman

[From FireWireBlog.com]

Ending weeks of speculation, Ben Affleck has been set to star as Batman, a.k.a. Bruce Wayne. Affleck and filmmaker Zack Snyder will create an entirely new incarnation of the character in Snyder’s as-yet-untitled project—bringing Batman and Superman together for the first time on the big screen and continuing the director’s vision of their universe, which he established in “Man of Steel.”  The announcement was made today by Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, and Sue Kroll, President, Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

The studio has slated the film to open worldwide on July 17, 2015.

Last month’s surprise announcement of the new movie featuring both Superman and Batman created a wave of excitement and immediately fueled discussion and debate—among fans as well as in the media—about who would put on the cape and cowl of Bruce Wayne’s alter ego.

Snyder successfully re-imagined the origin of Clark Kent/Superman in the worldwide blockbuster “Man of Steel,” which has earned more than $650 million worldwide to date, and climbing. The director will now create an original vision of Batman and his world for the film that brings the two DC Comics icons together.

Affleck will star opposite Henry Cavill, who will reprise the role of Superman/Clark Kent. The film will also reunite “Man of Steel” stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.

NBC Members Award: Robert Brawn & Joe Hotchkiss – Hydraulic Park

The Annual NBC Awards Luncheon is an opportunity to celebrate beautification accomplishments. Over the past year, NBC has experienced some challenges, some transitions, and some successes. During a time when city funding for the Commission was cut in half, the NBC board was going through a leadership change – the first of its kind in over a decade. Outgoing Chairperson Marge Gillies, who has devoted thirteen years of time, effort and passion to advancing the efforts of the NBC, handed the reigns over to Tom Lowe as the new Chairperson. In addition, Lana Perlman took over the Vice Chair role from Linda Gibbons. Both Gillies and Gibbons remain actively involved in the activities of the Commission – but Lowe and Perlman, both Niagara Falls residents, have begun to implement some new visions such as the NF CleanMob and a focus on the beautification of the downtown core. This downtown focus has enabled NBC to develop new public-private partnership with some downtown entities which, in turn, has made up for the gap in funding.

The Awards Luncheon is an opportunity for the NBC to share and celebrate their collective successes and to thank those who have contributed, in one way or another, to those successes. Please join the NBC in celebrating the hard work of their volunteers and the generosity of their supporters by attending the Annual Luncheon.
