Bloopers and outtakes from Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas

Well Dear Readers, if you grew up with HBO in the early 1980s (like Yours Truly), than I know you will dig this video of Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas outtakes from the music store scene.  Interesting to see how some behind the scenes puppetry works as well as just seeing more of these characters in action [You’ll notice Frank Oz voicing Emmet’s mother, which isn’t the same as in the final production]:

10 Important facts about A Christmas Story’s Leg Lamp

[From MentalFloss.com]

When A Christmas Story was first released in 1983, it was a sleeper that attracted only a small (but quite cultish) following. Over the past three decades, however, the film has steadily become a holiday staple on par with classics like A Charlie Brown Christmas and Miracle on 34th Street. And as the film itself has grown in popularity, so has one of its most recognizable props: the leg lamp, that glowing gam otherwise known as “A Major Award.”

1.THE LEG LAMP WAS INSPIRED BY AN OLD-SCHOOL SOFT DRINK

But the food science in his piece is deep and fascinating, and provides a kind of road-map for any definition of cookie-perfection…

Authority pay costly

[From Niagara-Gazette.com]

The New York comptroller reports that the state’s public authorities pay more than $7 billion annually to more than 104,000 employees, including nearly $1.8 billion to those earning more than $100,000.

Those six-figure staffs represent more than 13 percent of the people at the state’s 324 public authorities, which DiNapoli says often operate under the radar by their own rules…

War of 1812 comes alive in Lewiston

[From BuffaloNews.com]

War of 1812 burning of village remembered

Screaming children in nightgowns ran down Center Street illuminated by the light of propane flames while hundreds looked on Thursday night as Lewiston began its observance of the 200th anniversary of the burning of the village by the British during the War of 1812.

A ragtag band of American militia re-enactors then stepped up, firing their muskets…
