NCCC Liberty’s Living History Project

Local Students Recreate the Past at Community Event

Niagara County Community College’s Liberty Partnerships Program, which services at-risk youth grades 5-12 in Niagara County, hosted a Living History Museum on Saturday, August 9th on Third St. in Niagara Falls. The event spanned several locations. Student “tour guides,” who dressed as historical characters lead groups and gave information about the exhibits and all of the artifacts in them. The exhibits were compiled from months worth of hard work during after-school programs at Gaskill and Lasalle Preparatory schools, as well as collaboration with Liberty scholars participating in Liberty’s Literacy and STEM Summer Camp. Exhibits featured snapshots of scenes throughout history, ranging from King Tut’s tomb to a 1920s jazz club.

All work and props were created by Liberty students. A pop-up park with historical activities, snacks, and family games was also set up on Third St. outside of the exhibits.

This event was made possible in collaboration with Craig Avery of Erdco Development, in partnership with the City of Niagara Falls Office of Community Development Department, and Niagara County Community College, as well as partner schools in the Niagara Falls City School District.

Please join them as they continue to encourage the youth of Niagara to not only learn, but teach what they’ve learned!
