We know our students are full of great ideas and itching to get out there and put them into action, and the EntrepreNU competition is designed to give them that chance. EntrepreNU is a new program being run by faculty and staff from all four colleges, the Levesque Institute, and ReNU Niagara that engages students in the challenges of social entrepreneurship while ultimately aiming to help our local community.

Students will compete to create a business or self-sustaining non-profit that addresses a local social problem – with the winning team receiving up to $10,000 in start-up funding in addition to support with logistics and additional fundraising from a number of people on campus and in the community.

This year, the focus is on food, nutrition, and hunger in Northern Niagara Falls and we are searching for new, innovative ideas that are also feasible and realistic. Access to, and the cost of, food (especially fresh fruits and vegetables) poses a large challenge to Niagara Falls residents who, like most Americans, often lack the time, energy, tools, and/or the knowledge to regularly prepare healthy meals. The poverty and context of their neighborhoods exacerbate these difficulties.
