County working with investigators on asbestos claims at Shaw Building

Niagara County’s top administrator said Monday that “preliminary verbal reports” from state labor department officials who are investigating a complaint about asbestos at the county-owned Shaw Building in Lockport have shown “no airborne asbestos fibers and particles in public and employee areas.”

In a memo delivered to county employees, County Manager Jeffrey Glatz acknowledged that the county is working with the New York State Department of Labor Public Employee Safety and Health Division and its Asbestos Control Bureau as they continue their investigation into a complaint filed earlier this month by a county union leader…
