County officials discuss Shaw Building claims

Niagara County officials have received preliminary confirmation that no airborne threat persists at the Shaw Building, where a county union leader contends asbestos insulation was removed by some of his union’s members as well as welfare workers in May.

In a statement issued by County manager Jeffrey M. Glatz earlier this week, his office is said to have received “verbal reports” from the New York State Department of Labor’s Public Employee Safety and Health Division (PESH) that indicate no legacy contamination “in public and employee areas.”…
