Ezra P. Scott Jr hosts event dedicated to Connecting Young Professionals to each other and our City

[Press Release from Ezra P. Scott, Jr.]

I am hosting a Young Professionals Happy Hour on Thursday July 16th at Wine on Third from 530-730pm. The concept of the event is simple. Bring your business card or resume, and mingle with other professionals from our city. There will be a short program featuring a pair of guest speakers.  One speaker will address how to improve the way we market ourselves, making better first impressions, and utilizing our network to increase opportunity. The second speaker will discuss an issue facing our city followed by ideas and ways we can all connect and help make the necessary changes. The cost of a ticket to the event is $25. It will include a bracelet good for a two hour open bar featuring select wines, beer, and well drinks and finger foods.

One of the main reasons I decided to run for a seat on the Niagara Falls City Council was because I felt too many residents are disconnected from the decision making process. I believe this disconnect has resulted from voter apathy towards a system of government that does not noticeably work in their interest or seek their input. They are not disconnected because they do not care about our city or because they do not hold strong convictions about the direction our city ought to move in. Young professionals and their families can afford to live comfortably here in Niagara Falls. That is a luxury our city has. Important questions to ask are how do we create a city that they want to live in, that they can find adequate work in, or would want to raise a family in? Moving this city forward will require flexibility and input from everybody, especially our young professionals that are intent on staying in the region for years to come. The decisions that are made need to reflect what their hopes and dreams are for the city.

One of the ways we can get more people involved in our community is to make sure they are connected to each other and have insight into the issues facing our city. Developing a strong network for a young professional is more important than ever. Not every job is posted publicly, and not every important issue gains the most traction in the news or on social media. Word of mouth is how most people hear about jobs and personal experience is how most people glean what issues matter most to them. A more connected community of young professionals can only produce positive results for us all.
