Upcoming Conference at Niagara University: Fostering Racial and Social Justice

The Black Student Union at Niagara University is hosting a conference on Fostering Racial and Social Justice on April 15-16, 2016, and would like to invite you to attend and participate!

The events of last November showed that Niagara University students are committed to racial, economic, and social justice and they want to begin the process of implementing them now! The conference is a first step in these efforts, and will focus on connections between universities and the community.

They are also seeking presentations from community organizations, students, faculty, and anyone else with ideas on promoting justice in today’s society; they would like to run workshops as well. The goal of this conference is to lead to more effective collaboration between universities and the community, and more interaction between advocates for social justice in our region.

Martha Biondi, author of The Black Revolution on Campus and professor of African-American Studies and History at Northwestern University will presenting the keynote address.

The deadline for registration is March 15th (the registration website is: http://www.niagara.edu/conference/). The recommended registration donation is $25, but all are welcome regardless of donation. The Call for Participation is attached.

If you have any questions please contact Dr. David Reilly at 716-286-8088 or dreilly@niagara.edu.

[From BuffaloNews.com]

The Seneca One Stop gas station/convenience store proposed for downtown Niagara Falls would be “a poke in the eye to local gasoline retailers,” according to the New York Association of Convenience Stores.

Association President James Calvin called the plan to put the operation on Seneca Niagara Casino property a “wolf in sheep’s” clothing and said his members fear it would sell untaxed cigarettes in addition to gas..
