Niagara Falls man pleads not guilty in beer bottle assault

NCTEC Career and Technical Education Students Run for SkillsUSA Office

Many of the career and technical education students at the Orleans and Niagara Career and Technical Education Centers are members of SkillsUSA.  SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry that works together to ensure America has a skilled workforce.  It is a structured program of citizenship, leadership, employability, technical and professional skills training.

At the Niagara Career and Technical Education Center in Sanborn Kaila Veach, a junior from North Tonawanda, is running for Area I Vice President.  Kaila is enrolled in the EMS Program taught by Amy Green.  Dylan Guy, a junior from Wilson, is running for New York State Parliamentarian.  Dylan is enrolled in the Computer Technology Program taught by Joe DeMerle.

The voting for Area I Vice President will be held on March 8th at the SkillsUSA Regional Competition in Wellsville.  The voting for Parliamentarian will take place in Syracuse at the New York State SkillsUSA Competition that is held April 27th to April 29th.  The two students will begin campaigning after the Mid-Winter Recess.  Best of luck to Kaila and Dylan!

Seneca Nation plans gas station, convenience store in Niagara Falls

Despite protests four years ago that stopped a similar plan, the Seneca Nation and its gaming corporation announced Tuesday that they are within their sovereign rights to move forward on a plan to build and own a gas station and convenience store on sovereign territory near Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino.

Seneca leaders said they plan to break ground for the station in the near future and open it by June…

Old Falls Street Accepting Programming & Vendor Applications for 2016

Old Falls Street, USA, the three-block entertainment district that connects Niagara Falls State Park with hotels and attractions in downtown Niagara Falls, NY, is calling for area vendors and entertainers who are interested in showcasing their wares and talents during the 2016 season. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year and may be obtained by emailing FallsStreet@gmail.com.

Serving as the Niagara Falls “Community Welcome Center,” Old Falls Street is managed by Spectra Venue Management. The dynamic thoroughfare attracts a variety of residents and out-of-town visitors while providing exciting spaces for seasonal food vending, festivals, concerts and other free family-friendly activities throughout the year. Old Falls Street hosts daily interactive games, the Flicks on Old Falls free outdoor movie series, a Friday evening concert series and Free Family Fun activities on Saturday afternoons during the summer, as well as a host of other special events and activities throughout the year. During these activities, Old Falls Street features area entertainers and vendors as a way to enhance its programming and appeal to a wide audience.

“In addition to vendors and entertainers, we’re open to hearing any idea the public might have to encourage the creative use of Old Falls Street,” said Spectra Venue Management’s Jason Murgia, general manager, who stressed that his team is especially looking for free programs and events that incorporate health, fitness and wellness activities and appeal to local families and children as well as an international audience.

To obtain an application, send an email to fallsstreet@gmail.com. After completing the application, it can be returned to the same email address. Once the completed forms are reviewed, a member of the Old Falls Street team will be in contact to discuss the application.

Please note, fees are determined on a case-by-case basis and are calculated based on a number of factors, including the length and space for an event, as well as how it fits into Old Falls Street’s larger mission to serve the public.
