Mistretta hired by New York State Parks

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation announced the appointment of Mark V. Mistretta, RLA, ASLA as the Capital Facility Manager 2 for the Niagara and Allegany regions of New York State Parks.  In this role, Mistretta will oversee capital projects in over 20 state parks and facilities throughout the four counties of the two regions as the agency continues to embark on Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Parks 2020 initiative.

Mistretta brings over 37 years as a landscape architect with him including 27 years at Wendel where he served as a Corporate Officer and Principal. During his time at Wendel, Mistretta was instrumental in beginning and growing their Parks and Recreation division into one of the largest in Western New York, which included working on master planning for local state parks including Niagara Falls, Wilson-Tuscarora; Joseph Davis and Reservoir State Parks. Prior to his time at Wendel, Mistretta also worked at Greater Buffalo Landscapes and Cannon Design.

In addition to his work, Mistretta volunteers on local not for profits including the board of Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy where he has served for 35 years and the Buffalo Green Fund, a not for profit focused on volunteer efforts to give back to the community through urban forestry programs, streetscape improvements and educational programs.

Mistretta has been named to the Business First 40 under 40, is a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects, the Urban Land Institute and is the recipient of the Conservancy’s 2010 Frederick Law Olmsted award.

Mistretta received a B.A. in Landscape Architecture from Rutgers University and attended St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute. He resides in the Town of Tonawanda.
