Rainbow City Coalition announces Second Annual City of Niagara Falls Pride Flag Raising Ceremony

[Press Release]

June is known as Gay Pride History Month throughout the United States and many nations. because of the 1969 Uprising and Liberation Day, which took place on Christopher Street in New York City at a safe haven gathering space for LGBT individuals called the Stonewall Inn. These annual celebrations continue to serve as a reminder of the struggle for equality and non-discrimination, the safety and acceptance of the LGBT community.
Niagara Falls, New York and Mayor Paul Dyster hold a special place in the history of LGBTQ Civil Rights- because it holds the honor of being the location of the first same sex marriage as performed at Midnight on July 24, 2011 at the brink of the Falls when Honorable Paul Dyster officiated the marriage of Kitty Lambert & Cheryle Rudd, two grandmothers who had been working to gain marriage equality for many years. The very next day, hundreds of people looked on at a giant group wedding that took place at Terrapin Point, officiated by Mayor Paul Dyster, Councilwoman Kristen Grandinetti, Reverend Marna Pritchard and Reverend Terry Klime in which 46 same sex couples were at long last legally married.
On Friday, June 3,  2016 Mayor Paul Dyster, accompanied by members of the Rainbow City Coaltion will hoist the rainbow pride flag over City Hall, proclaiming Niagara Falls to be a welcoming and affirming city to our diverse population. Guests will be honored with words from Mayor Paul Dyster, Councilwoman Kristen Grandinetti, Councilman Ken Tompkins and a Benediction by Reverend Tina Galyn.
This event is open to the public and all who are LGBTQ, and allies are encouraged to attend.
