This was the caption on the picture in the Gazette on Tuesday, August 10, 1971:
DOWNTOWN’S CHANGING FACE- Pretty soon this block, bounded by Falls Street at bottom of photo, First Street at left and Second Street, middle right, will be almost vacant as Urban Renewal demolition continues. A major hotel* is expected to rise on the site curving around the First Presbyterian Church and its annex shown at left between two vacant lots. Immediately to the right of the church complex is the former Ambassador Leather Goods building, with part of the Henry Hubbs Hotel directly behind it. To the extreme right is the Imperial Hotel. At left between the church annex and the Alps Restaurant and Motor Inn, center left, is the rubble-strewn lot which used to be the Converse Motor Inn.
*The “major hotel” mentioned above was the Hilton. – Via Joel Paradise
