Ever since Vice President Aaron Burr’s daughter Theodosia and her husband ‘mooned here in 1802, Niagara Falls has been known as the “Honeymoon Capital of the World.” Fast forward a couple hundred years, and the idea of standing near the falls, holding hands and celebrating your love, is still a thrill for millions of couples.
This Sweetest Day, a holiday celebrated in the Midwestern and parts of the Northeastern United States, on the third Saturday in October, to bestow romantic deeds or expressions, couples from around the world will be able to renew their wedding vows in a non-denominational ceremony on Old Falls Street in Niagara Falls, N.Y.
“Renewing wedding vows can be a touching ceremony for couples, their children, family and friends. It’s a time to pause and reflect on where the couple has been and where they are going. It’s a wonderful example to set for children, demonstrating the strength and rewards of enduring love,” said Melissa Morinello, owner and executive planner, Sparkle! Marketing & Events, LLC, the firm behind “Vow Sweet It Is.”
The event will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, on Old Falls Street (between Prospect St. and Rainbow Blvd.). Rain location at Power City Eatery. A dessert and sparkling cider reception will immediately follow the ceremony. Niagara Falls Culinary Institute will provide wedding cake for participating couples.
There will also be prizes and giveaways during the event for couples married the longest, the shortest amount of years and a random draw.
Registration per couple is $25, which includes the ceremony, a wedding vow renewal certificate, flower, four-inch wedding cake, and glass of sparkling cider. Registration is possible via vowsweetitis.eventbrite.com, the event Facebook page or by calling 716.524.3001.
