A concerned person called Lewiston police earlier this month to report they’d seen a suspicious person dressed as a witch at 7:30 p.m. in the 500 block of Cayuga Street in the village, just a few blocks away from where the Marble Orchard Ghost Walk is held. Joseph Avery was stranded near Bath (Green) Island on July 19th 1853 when his boat was drawn into the deadly American Rapids after the oars broke. Two companions were immediately swept over the American Falls. Numerous rescue attempts failed. Eventually Avery was killed when he fell into the water and went over the Falls after a terror filled night spent on the rock that still bears his name. – via Max Eddy
