Florida trucker arrested in Wheatfield for having Glock with no NY permit

A Florida trucker who was transporting a load of tobacco to the Tuscorara Indian Reservation was stopped on Shawnee Road on Wednesday and his passenger was found to be carrying a loaded gun and 43 rounds of ammunition.

Although the man had a permit for the gun in Florida, he was arrested for not having a concealed weapon permit for New York State.

Guy A. Gangi, Jr., 48, of Hollywood, Fla., was a passenger in a truck driving on Shawnee when a Niagara County Sheriff’s patrol saw the driver repeatedly cross over a fog line. While conducting a search of the vehicle, police asked if there were any firearms on board, to which he replied, according to a police report, “Oh yes, I have my Glock right there.”

He then provided a Florida permit, but when told he needed a New York permit, said, “Man, I had no idea I couldn’t carry across state lines or in New York State, I always carry a pistol, there’s too many crazy (expletive)s out there.”

The gun had a full 15-round magazine with one round in the chamber.

Gangi was transported to the Town of Wheatfield court, then to the Niagara County Jail where he is being held in lieu of $250 bail.
